> Helen-Ling's ticket for the flight home was the last one available on the plane.
> Jay's fingerprinting paperwork, done in Quito Ecuador, and our fingerprint paperwork, done in Cleveland Ohio, end up on the same desk at the DHS to finalize our I800A document.
> Helen-Ling will be adopted in last the 12 hours of her eligibility.
> Monday, John and MC agree to use a loan to cover remaining adoption costs. Tuesday, we are notified of significant contributions to The Shepherd's Crook for Helen's adoption.
> The name Helen was given to her many years ago by her nannies in China. It happens to be the name of a very close Aunt of John's, who was a single missionary to Russia and Ecuador, and lived with them for a time. Helen is also Mary Catherine's grandmother's name.
> MC will be traveling with friends who are also adopting a daughter from China. We have prayed for their adoption for several years and now they will be there together.
> Donations are given in the greatest times of need in the paperwork process.
> Helen's foster family in China matches our family, in that she had two older brothers, a deaf sibling and babies.
Attacks
> John lost his job the day our dossier was notarized and ready to be mailed.
> Wallen family experiences child meltdowns the week CCAA is approving the paperwork of the adoption.
> The family dog is sick for three days, during which time MC is on the phone with a Senator's office, the National Visa Center and Guangzhou trying to expedite the paperwork. The dog is better the day the paperwork is completed.
> A DHS rule change requires our over-nighted paperwork to be sent back to us by overnight. We then have to overnight it to a lockbox. We lose 10 business days of processing time.
> A mix up of mailing labels causes our paperwork to get lost inside the Chinese Consulates in New York and Houston.
> The family members that stay home end up catching Strep. One of the kids ends up throwing up from the living room to the kitchen.
